Acoustic Emission Testing (AE)
Acoustic Emission Testing (AE) testing monitors high-frequency sound waves emitted by materials under stress. These emissions can indicate structural changes, such as crack growth or material deformation.
When a solid material is stressed, imperfections emit short bursts of acoustic energy known as "emissions." Specialized receivers can detect similar to ultrasonic testing, acoustic emissions. Sources of emissions can be evaluated by studying their intensity and arrival time to gather information, such as their location, about the energy sources. Acoustic Emission Testing (AE) is commonly used in pressure vessels, storage tanks, and pipeline integrity assessments.
